Unlike exterior work, interior painting isn't limited to the warm months — you can paint indoors any time of year. Still, there are ideal windows. Many New Jersey homeowners schedule interior projects in the fall and winter: once exterior painting season ends, crews have more availability, and it's a great time to refresh your rooms before the holidays or the new year.
Temperature and humidity still matter indoors. Most interior paints cure best between about 50°F and 85°F, and the key is keeping that temperature steady — which is much easier to control inside than outside. Excess humidity, especially in bathrooms and kitchens, slows drying and can leave the finish tacky, streaky, or prone to peeling, so we run fans or dehumidifiers and keep showers and cooking to a minimum while the paint dries.
Good ventilation is just as important. We keep air moving during and after painting, and we can use low-odor, low-VOC paints that make it easier to live in your home while we work. Most rooms are fine for light use within a few hours, but we recommend airing out a freshly painted bedroom for at least 24 hours before sleeping in it — longer for children, pets, or anyone sensitive to odors.
Prep is what makes interior paint look professional: moving and covering furniture, protecting floors with drop cloths, spackling nail holes and cracks, sanding patches smooth, and cutting clean lines along trim and ceilings. We also keep dust under control during sanding so your home stays clean.
